Noblesse oblige, literally translated, means nobility obligates. Dictionnaire de l’Académie française defines it:
1. Whoever claims to be noble must conduct himself nobly.
2. (Figuratively) One must act in a fashion that conforms with one’s position, and with the reputation that one has earned.
My father’s nickname for me is ‘Crown Prince,’ and has spawned a lifelong love affair with crowns. But, with great power comes great responsibility.
